Final Blog! (:

#1. As we watch progress through the film, "The Hurt Locker", how is the idea of realism being used for this movie? What kind of effects do you think that has on the viewers?

This movie is definitely very realistic. According to all of the reviews, they are very close when it comes to depicting real-life events. The kinds of things that are happening to the main characters have happened to many men and women who have served our country. I think that this has a huge effect on viewers. For most of us, we don't know what it is like in those kinds of areas or even in those kinds of situations. It is interesting and eye-opening at the same time. I think that through movies like this, we get a better view of what is happening around us.

#2. What do you think your biggest take away is from this class? What would be a suggestion to make the class better for next year?

The biggest take away is definitely the way I view film now. Just last night I went to the movie, "Noah." I found myself judging or critiquing the movie and how it was filmed the whole time without even realizing it until the end. It is definitely something I learned to do from this class, and now it is almost second nature so I will probably continue to do that. I think for next year, they really should try and make a video of their own. I know that we discussed doing that this year but just ran out of time. I think for future classes it would be a really fun experience and it will help them see just how difficult film-making is. They should have to almost study what they are doing the movie on just as a director would for a major movie. I think that would bring the history aspect back into that assignment.

  1. Keylee, I agree with you about how realistic this film actually is. However, I do not believe ALL reviews say that. I think your suggestion is great and it would really open the eyes to the kids who take the class next year. Great last post!!

  4. Keylee, I agree with you that the kids next year should try and make their own film. I think that would be an awesome project for them to try out. I also have started looking at movies in a different way because of this class. I think it is a good thing but it can also be a little annoying, haha. I really am glad i took this class though. PS: took my 3 tries to put this comment up!! -_-

  5. The way you talked about how you won't watch a movie the same way because of this class is the same way I feel. With researching, you can find out a lot more about a subject so that when you watch the movie you know what is true and what is not.

  6. Great Blog! I also feel like this movie provided me with information about the war and how the lives of soldiers are. It is crazy the amount of stuff that they go through on a daily basic. It makes me really appreciate our freedom and the work that soldiers do for us. I also thought that the film was very real and accurate. I also critique movies when I watch them and point out things that are inaccurate. I really like the suggestion of creating a film ourselves!

  7. I agree with your statements about how one doesn't realize what war is really like until they have been there and how this film does help the viewer get a pretty in depth look at what the Iraq war was like. I originally did not want to watch this movie, since the subject line didn't much interest me. I am glad know that I did see it. I agree with you comments about how normal citizens really don't know the struggle they went through. The movie gave me these senses of inspiration and a different feeling toward Iraq War and Afghanistan War veterans. I also like the ideas you have for the class next year. I think studying things like how directors do make film would be a great tool. I also agree with you on know that I see a film I notice myself critiquing it or questioning its authenticity.

  8. I agree that the film was eye-opening. The other class should definitely experience how difficult it would be to make a film. I think that we do critique movies now that we learned how movies can have such false information. Great blog!
