After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
My thoughts on studying the subject of film changed a lot after reading the first chapter. I didn't realize how much the point-of-view of the director came into play in the creation of a movie. We never honestly think of how a movie comes together while we are watching it and reading this chapter definitely put it all into a different perspective for me. I also liked how the author talked about everything we are going through this year in the first chapter. It gave us all a lot to look forward to when it comes to this class. I think by reading these chapters and having class discussion we are all going to learn a lot about everything that goes into the movie creation process.
Are movies a social danger or a social benefit?
I have never really thought of movies as being dangerous to society in any way. But, now that I consider everything that can be seen in a movie might have a huge effect on society. Young children see things in movies and think that that makes bad activities okay. In my opinion, that is the only way a movie can be a social danger. When it influences people or young children in a negative way. Other than that, I see movies as a social benefit because there are many things we can learn from movies. They can teach us about the past and there are also a lot of movies that have a really good and inspirational meaning behind them.
Wow Miss Odden this is a great blog you have going here! I am kind of new to this whole commenting thing, but I would just like to say that I totally agree with you on your opinion about Engaging Cinema. Reading that first chapter really hit me hard and opened my eyes to the world of film. I also look forward to what this class has to offer for us students enrolled.
ReplyDeleteKeylee, i like to disagree with what you said. When i was a kid, my thoughts of what was right and wrong was not changed by movies. I believe others would agree with me that movies don't change a child's knowing of right and wrong it is other factors that influence that change. Do you have any events that have happened in the past that agrees with what you have said? If so Id like to know so since my personal thoughts are more geared to movies not being a social danger.
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree with what Keylee was saying about how movies can skew a child's views of right and wrong. Just think of an inappropriate movie like Jackass the Movie. I can recall going on the internet and seeing little kids copying the things they do on Jackass because they think thats "cool." Now I don't think it's a major problem with movies but it's defiantly out there.
ReplyDeleteKeylee- I agree with you when you talked about how much the director plays a role in a movie. The director is the determining factor of influence on a character because they can portray a person any way that they want to. I agree with you and Michelle that movies can be a dangerous benefit to kids because they try to copy what the movies say or do. Good blog :) #bloglife
ReplyDeleteKeylee, excellent job on your blog. I would have to agree that the introduction to our book really puts a lot of information into a different perspective with film. This point you made is really the purpose of this class. Using the information you read to help develop and then support your writing really helps solidify your point of view and I commend you for that. Keep up the great work!
